Cultural Facilities Fund Calls for Applications

The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) and MassDevelopment today announced
the release of guidelines and a call for applications for the landmark
Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund.
The two agencies, which will jointly administer the $13 million Fund, also
announced the following:
*	A schedule of public information sessions in communities across the
state for cultural organizations, municipalities, schools, and others
interested in applying for Cultural Facilities Fund grants.
*	The formation of the Cultural Facilities Fund Advisory Committee,
whose members represent different geographic regions of the state with
experience in the areas of fundraising, financial planning, and
construction.
*	The hiring of a Cultural Facilities Fund Project Director.
GUIDELINES & APPLICATIONS
The Fund is now accepting applications for Capital Grants and Feasibility,
and Technical Assistance Grants that promote the acquisition, design,
repair, expansion, or construction of cultural facilities in Massachusetts.
Nonprofit cultural organizations, municipalities, and institutions of higher
education that own cultural facilities are eligible to apply, subject to
some limitations. All grants from the Fund must be matched with cash
contributions from the private or public sector.

The Cultural Facilities Fund Guidelines are available online at

www.massculturalfacilities.org.
Applicants must submit an intent-to-apply letter to MCC by February 1, 2007;
and final applications must be received by the MCC by no later than 5pm on
March 15, 2007.
MCC will offer information sessions about the Cultural Facilities Fund in
various locations throughout the state in January. The schedule has been
posted online.

ABOUT THE FUND
A new initiative of the Massachusetts Legislature, the Cultural Facilities
Fund was created as part of a broader Economic Stimulus bill approved last
July. This landmark legislation is among the most ambitious of its kind in
the nation. The Fund received strong, bipartisan support from the
Legislature.
Passage of this legislation marked the successful completion of a campaign
for cultural facilities that was spearheaded by the Boston Foundation,
Massachusetts Advocates for the Arts, Sciences and Humanities (MAASH), and
the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and involved hundreds of advocates
across the state. The leaders of the campaign are profoundly grateful to
the Massachusetts State Legislature for its vision and leadership in the
passage of this bill, and for recognizing the value of cultural facilities
to the economic, educational, and social life of the state.
The Fund is administered through a collaborative arrangement between
MassDevelopment and the MCC. It is overseen by the newly established
Cultural Facilities Fund Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is
comprised of nine members, six appointed by the Governor, plus the President
and CEO of MassDevelopment, and the Executive Directors of the Mass.
Cultural Council, and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. More
information on the Advisory Committee can be found

online.
FACILITIES PROGRAM DIRECTOR HIRED

In conjunction with the release of the guidelines, the MCC is pleased to
announce it has hired Jay Paget as Program Director of the Cultural
Facilities Fund. Jay comes most recently from the Local Initiatives Support
Corporation (LISC), a national intermediary for community development based
in Boston. He has nearly a decade of experience in community development,
and has also served several arts and humanities organizations as a staff
member and volunteer leader. He started as Program Director on December 18.
Jay can be contacted by e-mail at <mailto:jay.paget at state.ma.us>
jay.paget at state.ma.us or by phone at 617-727-3668 (ext. 263).
