Call for Artists: 3rd Annual Brattle Theatre ArtHouse Silent Art Auction -
9/28/2006
Dear Friends and Artists:
Last year's second annual ArtHouse silent art auction fundraiser for the
Brattle Film Foundation, the non-profit organization that operates the
Brattle
Theatre and its programs, took place just as the Preserve the Brattle Legacy
Campaign was launched amidst publicity about our film programming being
threatened
by rising industry costs and decreased box office sales. We are very excited
to tell you that since that time, the community has shown a tremendous
outpouring of support. Rallying behind our efforts, hundreds of supporters
both here
and across the country contributed over 50% of our 2-year $500,000 goal.
Indeed, there is a great sense of renewal and excitement.
We still have a long way to go, however. As you know, the Theatre is one of
only two remaining single-screen theatres in the Boston area and the last
remaining independent cinema in Cambridge. Some might call it an anachronism
in a
world of multiplexes, DVDs and iPods. But most know it as a haven for
culture a
nd an important cornerstone of the national film community.
Many of you participated in the Art House silent art auction in 2004 and
2005, and we thank you. In years past, the auction has raised over $10,000
for the
Brattle's programming fund and over 50 participating artists received free
movie passes and commissions on their works sold!
We are at it again and invite all artists to submit works to:
ART HOUSE
a silent art auction fundraiser and party
Thursday, September 28th, 2006
THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER AUCTIONS YOU MAY HAVE BEEN ASKED TO DONATE WORK
FOR!
* Artists will donate works of art with a market value of no more than $750
(we would like to make this an event where even young collectors can
purchase
an amazing piece of art at affordable prices).
* Artists will receive 25% of final sale price of their donated artwork,
unless they elect to donate 100% of the proceeds to the Brattle.
* Artists will receive 6 free Brattle Theatre movie passes - (a $54 value).
* Artists will receive the red carpet treatment at the event including free
admission - (another $15 value).
* Artists will receive the overall warm fuzzies for helping out a New
England
landmark - the Brattle Theatre (priceless!)
If, like us, you regard the Brattle Theatre as a local cultural jewel and
resource, then we invite you to put your art where your heart is, and to
submit a
work of art for the auction. If you have ever felt inspired or touched by a
movie screened at the Brattle, attended a discussion with a filmmaker, or an
author reading at the Brattle, now is your chance to give something back.
Reply by July 15, 2006 for inclusion in the printed invitation, with your
name and the number of works you plan on donating, to Francis Scire at
fxs99 at aol.com or to Megan Hurst at modezyne39 at yahoo.com. We will send you
information
regarding submission logistics.
Please forward this message to artists that may be interested.
We look forward to hearing from you, and seeing some great art at ArtHouse
2006!
Warm Regards,
Francis Scire & Megan Hurst
