Subj: Governor Vetoes Cultural Facilities Funding! The Campaign for Cultural Facilities Returns to the Legislature
Governor Vetoes Cultural Facilities Funding!
We Will Not Quit--We Will Ask the Legislature to Override the VetoDear
Friends,
This morning, (Saturday, June 24) Governor Romney vetoed the
appropriation for the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund which
would fund the improvement, expansion, and restoration of new and
existing cultural and heritage facilities all across the
Commonwealth.
It is a surprising and unexpected veto because cultural Facilities
funding has achieved overwhelming bipartisan support, thanks to the
leadership of Speaker Sal DiMasi and Senate President Robert
Travaglini, winning unanimous support in the House and passing 35-1 in
the Senate. Facilities funding has been endorsed by the 6 major
newspapers in the state and has been supported by many key business
leaders. Over 650 advocates have written to the Governor asking for
his support.
Given the broad support across the Commonwealth, the Campaign for
Cultural Facilities will now ask the House and Senate to override the
Governor’s veto.
Please watch for our next advocacy alerts to carry the override message
to the House.
Sincerely,
Dan Hunter
