WORKSHOP ON HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL OPEN STUDIOS EVENT TO TAKE PLACE IN
DORCHESTER ON JUNE 19 
A Open Studios How-to for Artists
Dorchester, MA - May 25, 2006 The Dorchester Arts Collaborative (DAC), which
produces the annual Dorchester Open Studios event, has teamed up with Mayor
Menino's Boston Business Assistance Center and the Artists Foundation to
present a practical workshop designed to teach visual artists how to get the
most out of the open studios experience. The workshop will be held on June
19, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Great Hall in Codman Square,
Dorchester. 
The workshop is targeted to first-time exhibitors, but will also be useful
to event veterans, and will cover topics including: how to decide if open
studios is a good venue for you; what to expect; how to create a timeline
for getting ready; responsibilities of exhibiting artists; marketing your
involvement; what work to present and how; best practices for engaging
visitors; studio sales; the obligations of the self-employed entrepreneur;
and steps to take after the show. The session will be led by Liora Beer,
Business Manager/Arts & Culture Specialist for the Boston Business
Assistance Center, operated by the Department of Neighborhood Development,
and Kathleen Bitetti, Executive Director of the Artist Foundation.
Admission is $5 cash or check at the door. Members of DAC are free.
Pre-registration is requested but not required. Email your intention to

Great Hall is located at 6 Norfolk Street (corner of Talbot Avenue) in
Codman Square, Dorchester. (Please note that the building is not handicapped
