Subject: Artist/Designer Question Answer Day
Dear Mass Cultural Council, The Copley Society of Boston, Dorchester
Artists' Collaborative, and the Boston Architectural Center:
I am writing on behalf of myself and my students at the Lila G. Frederick
Pilot Middle School. I am trying to coordinate a series of Artist/Designer
Career Days for my school. We have four semesters in our academic calendar,
and I'd like to arrange Artists/Designers (2-4) to come in for each of my
four student groups. (Semester 1 is now....Semester 2 begins November
10th....and so on).
I am hoping for these 2-4 Artists/Designers to come for the first Career Day
on Friday, October 6th. The classes meet from 9:20 AM-2:00 PM (with a
half-hour for lunch).
There is parking at the school and it's T-Accessible (#16 bus). My
Principal is very supportive of the arts and both she and I want to really
get students excited about and informed about careers in the arts. Ideally,
at least 1 of the guests would be a person of color (our student population
is predominately African American and Latino).
The students will be assigned as homework to compose questions for our
guests. Some questions I have in mind they could consider include: what do
you do at your job, on a daily/weekly/yearly basis? what did you study in
college? how much do you earn per year/week/month? what is the hardest
part of your job? what part do you like best? what are your favorite
artists/designers (keeping in mind these students are not familiar with most
well-known fine artists, and might need a 'visual example' or two.....i.e.
postcards)
If you or someone you know is interested, please let me know. I'm afraid
there is no money for this program this year, but I am certain if it's a
success we will be able to provide a stipend/honorium in the future. If the
artist/designer needs a slide projector or an LCD projector, I would need to
know this ASAP.
In exchange our students will provide: gratitude, enthusiasm, a warm glow
for you, and thank you cards aplenty!
I hope to hear back soon!
