Dear Friends,

This Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m, Gallery at the Piano Factory honors long-time resident, international artist and community friend, Vusumuzi Maduna in cooperation with and support of his family.

Vuzi is well know for his striking assemblage masks and ancestral figures as well as his public art projects in Boston and Cambridge, such as "The Judge," installed outside of the Roxbury Courthouse and other works at the Dudley Branch Library and Cambridge Community Center. He lived at the Piano Factory for over 25 years and was one of its original artist residents. He was also a member of the African American Master Artists in Residency Program (AAMARP) at Northeastern University, Known as much for his authentic and direct personality as his brilliant works of art, Vuzi leaves behind many friends, admirers and collectors in the arts community and beyond.

Vusumuzi recently passed away after a long battle with a rare form of cancer. He maintained his irrepressible personality and clear perspectives on art and life. Just do it.

Join us on Saturday evening, April 14, 2007 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Gallery at the Piano Factory, 791 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, for music, refreshments, and the most comprehensive exhibition of Vuzi’s work in recent years. There will be presentations by Kay Bourne, art critic and journalist, Johnetta Tinker, long time friend and fellow artist, and his children, Basonge James and Niamia James.

This is a rare opportunity to view over 50 pieces of Vuzi’s artwork spanning four decades of art making. An evening reception will follow at AAMARP, 76 Atherton Street, Jamaica Plain, MA.
