Dot Art Announces The Clay Station-
New Artist Studio Space on Dorchester Avenue

In January 2008, The Dorchester Community Center for the Visual Arts (Dot
Art) is opening a new studio space on Dorchester Avenue. The Clay Station
will be a ceramics studio providing classes for people of all ages, as well
as space for aspiring and professional artists to work. The Clay Station is
the only studio of its kind in Dorchester, housing pottery wheels, classroom
space, a glazing station, as well as exhibition space for original work made
in the studio.

Dot Art plans to make The Clay Station, named for its location mid-way
between Shawmut and Ashmont Stations on the MBTA Red Line, an easily
recognizable fixture on the Avenue, and a welcoming home to artists of all
ages and skill levels.

Plans are already in place for programming to be held at this new studio.
Here are a few of the events and activities planned:

Public Art for the Ave
A Collaboration Between Dot Art and the New Dot to Dot Café
Dot Art is inviting young artists to participate in a sculpture project
focusing on the use of ceramics and clay, and working with the theme of
joining our community together. Sculptures created by the students in this
new class will be permanently installed as part of the storefront of the new
Dot to Dot Café in the St. Marks area, becoming a Dorchester Avenue landmark
for years to come. Dot Art is thrilled to have been asked to produce this
work for local restaurateur Karen Henry Garrett.

Ms. Garrett said she firmly believes in the work of Dot Art. ³I think that
the idea of having an art community and making art available to young people
is a fantastic one that I am very much behind. So, when the chance to own my
own café became a reality, I thought that a collaboration with a community
leader like Dot Art epitomizes my own community vision for Dot 2 Dot.²
