hey dac folks! i've got some fantastic events coming up in february and
wanted to share them with you. here's the info below, but please visit
the website (http://www.truthserum.org) and hit the link at the bottom
if you'd like to be on the mailing list. since my stuff isn't often held
in dorchester i don't often post to the DAC list, so getting on my
mailing list is a good idea if you are interested. also it gives you the
occasional opportunity to win tickets to shows all around town.

oh! and tonight: my friend lindsay has been hosting chez vous roller
skating benefit events to help them stay open. these are tons of fun
(i'll be there tonight) and the djs are top notch. www.chezvousskate.com

(that's Truth Serum hearts The Brattle for those of you not up on your
keyboard symbols)

Truth Serum has been on a bit of winter hibernation hiatus but now
it's time to come out of our cave and warm up this city. February
always seems to be a hot month for us! (see our other events coming up
also!)

For my birthday (feb 10) I've put together a benefit show for The
Brattle that combines many of the things I love most: drag, dance,
documentaries, drinks and dessert.

Paris is Burning is an award winning documentary about the drag and
vogue ball scene in NYC in the mid-late 80's, made by Jennie
Livingston. Who's the Top, a short (non-doc) film about love, BDSM and
sex, also by Jennie Livingston, was produced by Boston's own Laura
Teodosio. The screening will be preceded drag and vogue performances
by TraniWreck favorites Becca D'Bus, Mr. Lady, Miss Nicholle Pride,
Heywood Wakefield and others. After the screening everyone is invited
to get drinks and dessert at a location TBA.

Burlesque Life Drawing Comes to Boston

When many artists think "life drawing," they think of sterile rooms,
bad lighting, and bored, silent, models with nary a hint of
personality. Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School is here to change all
that.

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School is the little New York art event that
became a movement. Started in 2005 by artist and burlesque dancer
Molly Crabapple, the concept is simple. Artist's draw glamorous
burlesque dancers, compete in contests, and win wacky prizes. From
it's humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy's now has 16 branches
around the globe, including Hollywood, London, Berlin, Edinburgh, and
Melbourne.

It's also spawned a companion book, Dr. Sketchy's Official Rainy Day
Colouring Book, by Crabapple and John Leavitt, published by
Sepulculture Books. This adults-only colouring book is one part saucy
activity book, one part DIY handbook, and one part history of Dr.
Sketchy's first year. The Village Voice calls it "a hipster's wet
dream", while the LA Times describe it as "smartly snarky" and New
York's L Magazine praises it's "jovial yet biting Neo-Victorian wit."

Boston is the first stop on Molly Crabapple's book tour. Truth Serum
Productions hosts this special day time Dr. Sketchy's at Great Scott,
featuring sultry Devilicia of Black Cat Burlesque posing and performing,
and Crabapple signing books. Truth Serum's Aliza Shapiro says, "Boston
needs more drunken drawing! If it goes well, we'll do it monthly!"

Since it's inception in 2005, Dr. Sketchy's has received coverage from
the likes of The LA Times, Time Out NY, The Village Voice, WNBC, and
The New Yorker.
