CALL FOR ARTISTS - Nature and Balance at Arsenal Center for the Arts
DEADLINE: March 30, 2007 (postmark)

The Arsenal Center for the Arts invites artists, architects and landscape
architects to participate in Nature and Balance, a temporary public art
exhibition at the Arsenal on the Charles complex in Watertown,
Massachusetts. This
juried outdoor exhibition will consist of temporary site-specific
installation
work, structures and sculpture set into the landscape of the historic
grounds of
the Arsenal. The exhibition is scheduled for June 2007 through October
2007.

Nature and Balance will open with an artist's reception featuring live music

and other entertainment at greater Boston's newest and most exciting center
for the performing, literary and visual arts, Arsenal Center for the Arts.
Throughout the exhibition, there will be a series of events including
educational
programs for adults and children, artist talks, organized tours, concerts
and
other special events. We will produce an exhibition brochure featuring a
map,
brief artist statements and information on the Arsenal's historic past. The

Arsenal Center's website, www.arsenalarts.org <http://www.arsenalarts.org> ,

will feature highlights of the exhibit, artist information and event
calendar.

Selected artists will receive a $1500 stipend which will include materials
and ancillary expenses. The examples of artwork submitted by artists
interested
in participating in this exhibit will be reviewed by two leaders of the
public art community. Michael Dowling is the Artistic Director of Medicine
Wheel
Productions. He holds a BFA and MFA from Boston University, where he studied

with Philip Guston and James Weeks. Dowling is one of the Commonwealth's
most
innovative and courageous artists who produces visually stunning, ambitious
public works of art that serve and inspire communities on many levels. His
work
stems from his heartfelt desire to beautify and make life better for all.
Lillian Hsu is the Director of Public Art and Exhibitions for the City of
Cambridge. An installation artist and sculptor, Lillian Hsu studied at
Wellesley
College, Harvard University, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She
has
exhibited extensively around the U.S. Her work is in the permanent
collections
of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis
University as well as in private collections.
