To the Cultural Leaders of Massachusetts,

We invite you to celebrate arts and culture at the State House on March 7 when the eighth biennial Commonwealth Awards will be presented! ( http://masscultural.pmailus.com/pmailweb/ct?d=CjzyMgAOAAEAAACoAAD7ag ) Our corporate sponsor, Bank of America, has made it possible for us to offer this wonderful event for free.

Together we have made a strong case for the value of public investment in arts and culture. The past three years have seen increased investments in the Massachusetts Cultural Council and its grant programs for communities, organizations, schools, and artists. Last year we successfully advocated for passage of the landmark Cultural Facilities Fund, which will provide nearly $13 million to build, repair, or expand the structures that house our arts, humanities, and science organizations and the public programs they provide.

We have new champions for our work in the leadership of the Legislature and its Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development. And we have a newly elected Governor who speaks passionately about the importance of the arts and arts education to the life of the Commonwealth.

March 7th will be a day of events designed to highlight the role that arts, humanities, and science organizations play in building community, improving education, and strengthening our economy. We will present two panel discussions focusing on the creative economy and the role of creativity in education. We have planned a luncheon and reception so you can network with your friends and colleagues and meet your legislators. The day will conclude with the Commonwealth Awards presentations in the Great Hall. We have invited the Governor to join us and share his thoughts on the future of arts and culture in Massachusetts. And as always, we will recognize the outstanding contributions of the Commonwealth Award winners.

To register and view a schedule of the day's events go to www.massculturalcouncil.org/conference/comawards07.html ( http://masscultural.pmailus.com/pmailweb/ct?d=CjzyMgAOAAEAAAlFAAD7ag ) .

We hope you will join us to celebrate the Commonwealth Awards and the cultural community of Massachusetts.

Sincerely,
