[DAC] postcards and card printing leads

I'm relatively new to ordering postcards but do have a couple of
things to add. Re Modern Postcard, my advisor at MassArt has been
using (and recommending) them for years. They're reliable and
competent, but so-so on speed & prices. Also note that they have a
minimum run size of 250 postcards, which may not be useful for everyone.
I used overnightprints.com once (on the recommendation of a
classmate), but I will *never* use them again. The prices were
cheap, but delivery speed was slow--apparently the "overnight" part
means only that they submit your job to their printer (in Tennessee,
I think) by the next day, and the color and quality were awful. They
agreed to reprint them for free and do it as a priority, but the
customer service guy forgot to put my job into the print queue, so
delivery was even slower than the first run (and the quality was
barely adequate). Very annoying.
Much as I like the convenience of ordering online, I'll probably try
Ink Spot for my next run. It's worth the extra money for quality
work, and since I do dyeing, good color representation is critical
for me.

I'm posting this to the whole list because some people might find it
helpful.
The least expensive way to print 4 color postcards is gang run, which
means
that it's possible that your color won't be exactly what you wanted.
But
the price difference is staggering. In the dozens of times I've printed
cards, there was only one time when I thought the color was so
substantially
different that I thought it affected the design.
The cheapest gang run printer I've found, with a simple online ordering
system, is 48hourprint.com. They have an office in Dorchester, but the
printing is done in Ohio. The quality is good.
The fastest gang run printer I've found, which is also very
inexpensive, is
pkgraphics.com in Miami. They print overnight, but require a phone
conversation to confirm billing. They're also the ones who I had the
slight
color problem with.
I have also heard people say good things about Modern Postcard, but I
believe their turnaround is rather lengthy, and last I checked a
couple of
years ago, they were more expensive than the others.
For non-gang run, there is no good printer in Dorchester that I have
ever
found. I'd love to give my business to someone local, but the two
printers
I know of really messed up some orders in years past. So for more
specialized kinds of printing, I use Theresa at the Ink Spot in Quincy.
They do great work, but they're not cheap.

Hello fello DAC artists.
I was looking for a lead on possible postcard/card making companies that
have
1. incredible quality in the product
2. reasonable in cost
3. online or local companies
just some leads or references would be appreciated.
it seems like there are billions of we-make-postcards-cheap places
and it is
difficult to sort them out.
stop the insanity!
thanks, sierra
