When was the last time you read a classic American novel? A National
Endowment for the Arts (NEA) report has identified a critical decline in
literary reading among American adults. A recent survey of 17,000 people
revealed that less than half of the adult American population now reads
literature. UMass Boston's WUMB Radio and the Healey Library are considering
whether or not to apply for an NEA grant to participate in NEA's "Big Read"
program. If selected, one of 16 literary classics would have to be chosen
from the NEA's list for an innovative reading program. Please help them make
a decision about whether to get involved, about which book to choose and
