Part Time Job Opening: WUMB Radio 

Title: Host, Commonwealth Journal 

Time: Part-time (8-12 hours per week) 

Appointment: One year; trust-funded by sponsors 

Radio Program Description: Commonwealth Journal is an award-winning, weekly 
half-hour, public/cultural affairs radio program featuring two 14-minute 
interviews weekly with scholars, writers, cultural employeers and public
officials 
examining current topics and issues of particular interest to Massachusetts'

radio listeners. Segments may include topics such as summer theater programs
in 
the Berkshires, the history of the Customs House in Boston, new
Massachusetts' 
welfare regulations, MCAS testing, or discussions of recent Supreme Court 
Rulings. Commonwealth Journal informs Massachusetts' residents about what is

happening in, around, and to their state; or addresses national and
international 
issues from a Massachusetts perspective. The show is aired weekly on 30
radio 
stations around Massachusetts and heard by approximately 70,000 people per 
week. WUMB Radio and Commonwealth Journal staff is eager to continue
providing 
quality programming for members of the Commonwealth. For additional

Salary Information: Weekly stipend is $150-$200, depending on experience. 

Description: The host of Commonwealth Journal will be responsible for 
pre-recording in-studio interviews with guests, weekly. The host will also
be 
responsible for reading through materials provided by research assistants
and/or 
books, and generating a list of interview questions prior to every
interview. The 
host will work closely with the production team to help determine the
content 
of the program, and do occasional remote interviews if required. Duties also

include writing interview introductions, pod-cast introductions, and other 
various promotional on-air advertisements for the program. 

Qualifications: Do you read daily newspapers, weekly magazines & books and 
have a good knowledge about a wide range of subjects? Do you consider
yourself 
thoughtful and curious? Do you project a sense of authority and credibility?

Are you a great conversationalist and a great listener? 

You don't have to be a radio professional to be considered for the job, but 
experience behind the microphone is a definite plus. Qualified candidates 
should have some familiarity with the overall sound and character of public
radio 
and other talk/interview programs. The successful candidate will be a
motivated 
self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently yet also work

supportively with the production team. (S)he must also have a flexible 
schedule, and occasionally have the ability to conduct interviews on short
notice. 
Being well-versed on current events and in a number of assorted community 
affairs topics is also a must. Application Procedures: Applicants should

finalist, 
applicants should be prepared to write a short intro and list of questions
for
