CALL TO ARTISTS AND AUDITIONS
THE CITY OF BOSTON SEEKS A POET LAUREATE
Mayor Thomas M. Menino has approved the creation of a Poet Laureate position for the City of Boston. The Poet Laureate will be an honorary two-year position. During that term, the Poet Laureate will act as an advocate for poetry, language and the arts and create a unique artistic legacy through public readings and civic events. The Poet Laureate will also be expected to attend a variety of civic functions, participate in poetry events and carry through one or more special civic projects. Each Poet Laureate will be free to pursue an individual agenda in addition to their civic duties and will not be considered to be an employee of the City of Boston. Applications are invited from poets who are currently residing in the City of Boston and have been published or have been recognized for notable literary contributions at any stage in their career. The Poet Laureate will be compensated at no cost to the City. An endowment from private foundations is the preferred method of sustaining this program.
