How are you doing? I hope all is well with you and yours. Right now I am
looking for your assistance, if you know anyone who can help the Murphy
Community Center with an Arts and Culture program that we are trying to get
off the ground. We don't want to loose funding for it and this would be
great exposure to Arts and Culture to the pre-teens and Teens the Murphy
provides services for. Can you or do you know of anyone that could possibly
help the Murphy at such short notice; if so can you please pass this email
with the programs description and criteria to them. Thanks a lot for any
all the assistance you can give the center with this matter.

THE MURPHY COMMUNITY CENTER

PRESENTS . . .

THE M-PACT PROGRAM

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM:

The Murphy-Photography, Arts and Culture, and Theatre Program is
to provide a quality after-school program dedicated to the promotion of arts
and culture activities among the youth and teens (ages 11-18yrs) in the
Dorchester neighborhood. Our key achievements for this program are to
create and affordable, high quality after-school program and introduce
youth to Boston's arts and cultural resources such as Museums, Theaters,
Concerts, Showcases, and Galleries.

ABOUT US:

The Richard J. Murphy Community Center is a non-profit organization.
The Murphy has been serving the community since October 1973. We serve
toddlers, children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. During the academic
year we run an after school activities, pre-school, adult classes, and teen
center program. Some of the programs offered are swimming lessons for
children; as well as, computer classes, line dancing, water aerobics, yoga,
adult and children ceramic classes, intro to self-defense, adult knitting,
cartooning, and our infamous Murphy Monsters swim team.

In the Summer, we offer a summer day camp for children from the ages
5-10. During the summer campers enjoy ceramics, art & crafts, pool, gym,
Story Mobile various workshops ( I.E. Nutrition, save our waters, and
R.A.D., just to name a few), themed days, and field trips. Our camp serves
over 300 campers during our two sessions every year.

During the Summer in conjunction with the Boston Youth Fund we employ
over 30 youth as our junior counselors to work in our summer day camp
program.

We also offer four 14 year olds, who are unable to work, the
opportunity to join our summer crew through the FACTS Leadership program,
where they are junior counselors in training. This program is a pre-amble
to the following summer when they are eligible to work.

This is a program sponsored through BCYF*, where they attend weekly off-site
leadership workshops with other FACTS participants, gain experience by
working with the camp in various roles, and at the end of the program each
participant upon submitting their completed feedback

essays and surveys will receive a small stipend for successfully completing
the summer program.

The Teen Center also offers a program run called "Summer of Enrichment
& Fun!" This program is geared towards ages 12.9 to 14. This program is
geared and targeted to pre-teens and teens that are unable to work for the
summer and are too old for camp. S.E.F. offers 3 two week summer sessions.
Each two week session has its own theme. This program runs Monday thru
Friday from 11am to 5pm.**
