Subject: Dot Art Classes

Hello All! We have some new classes enrolling for children, adults and
February Vacation!. Call 617-265-3503 to register. Spaces are limited! A
list of all of Dot Art's classes is attached. We hope to see you soon!

Introduction to Ceramics-Adults
Beginners Wheel-working/Hand-building
Learn the basics of creating with clay (called hand-building techniques) and
shaping ceramics on a potter's wheel. Use slabs and coils of clay to sculpt
forms, and produce bowl and cylinder pieces with the wheel. Create unique
and durable vessels and sculptures with guidance from in-class
demonstrations, and learn to glaze and fire your works. Students are
encouraged to progress and experiment at their own speed.

Schedule: 8 weeks, Wednesdays February 6- April 2
Hours: 6:30-8:30pm
Instructor: Hillary McLaughlin
Location: The Clay Station
Cost: $130
Limit: 10

FINDING YOUR MEDIUM--A FEW SPACES LEFT! (adults and mature teens)

This class is for adults and mature teens who are interested in drawing and
painting. The objective is to improve your drawing and painting skills by
exposing you to a variety of different approaches and materials. We will
review basics you may have studied before (composition, line quality,
gesture and more) but your understanding of those concepts will be
reinforced when you put them into practice using different techniques and
materials. Working with dry media (graphite, charcoal, and oil pastel) will
help you focus on line, and working with wet media (acrylics, ink washes,
etc) will shift the emphasis to finding shapes and planes. When the two work
together wonderful things can happen. Once you¹ve discovered a way of
working that brings you satisfaction and results, you¹ll spend the
remainder of your sessions developing your unique way of making images.

Schedule: Monday 6:00pm-8:00pm
10 Weeks: February 4- April 14, 2008, no class
No Class on February 18
INSTRUCTOR: Amy MacDonald

Drawing Discoveries (ages 6-8)

Young artists will explore the possibilities of pencil and a variety of 2-D
materials to render shapes and forms from their imagination and the world
around them. Students will put line to use in many ways, by drawing movement
in quick "gesture" sketches, paying close attention to the details, textures
and shadows of objects, and by adding color. Students will work in a variety
of sizes. Subject matter will include fun everyday objects, figure drawing,
abstractions and self-initiated choices.

Schedule: Mondays 3:30pm-5:30pm
Six Weeks: January 28, February 4, 11, 25 and March 3, 10
No classes February 18

FEBRUARY VACATION CLASSES
Vacation classes run from February 19-February 22: 8:30am-2:30pm. The

Green! Ages 6-9
Students will involve their hands and imaginations in projects inspired by
the color green, including planting a community tree, drawing and painting
ideas from nature, building sculpture from recycled materials, and inventing
new creatures in clay and collage.

GreenWare Ages 10-13
What does being green mean? Making three-dimensional art from natural
materials is a great start. Ways to conserve and recycle are integral to
ceramics. Students will explore how to hand build unique sculptures inspired
by the natural world. Discover various ceramic techniques and explore
throwing clay on a pottery wheel. An introduction to firing and glazing will
be included.
